Orico USB 3.1, Gen 2 Powered Hub with M3 MacBook Air

I found an Anker USB adapter from USB-C (male) to USB-A (female) to connect legacy USB-A Orico, powered hub. Works great for my old optical drive, scanner and a portable Time Machine drive. However, to make it look a little cleaner, I bought a couple of new cables (USB-C (male) to USB-A (male) replacing OEM Orico cable and nothing connects. Any ideas?

If you're consistently using the upstream port on the Orico hub – but only the original cable + plug adapter work, that might suggest that the other cables in your possession are

  • Defective, or
  • Charging-only cables (not as described)

You say the Orico hub is a legacy USB-A powered hub. So – it just has a USB-A upstream port and some USB-A downstream ones? Anything/nothing else? And you are connecting it to its own power supply?

Perfect - thank you, Re: "Like other cables with USB-A connectors on either end, this cable does not support DisplayPort Alt Mode and/or USB-C Power Delivery, and would not be recommended for hooking up a USB-C dock where some features that you want to use rely on these things."

Maybe I'll reach out to OWC and see if they have what I'm looking for... (Amazon is nightmare when I don't know the subject matter very well...)

Sorry for the goofy links - updates below...

This link seems to be identical to the one for Cable #1.

The description of this cable says that it is a USB-C to USB-A charger cable that supports data transfer at up to 480 Mbps (USB 2.0 speed).

The description of this cable says that it is a USB-C to USB-A data cable that supports data transfer at up to 10 Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 2 speed). That is as good as it gets for any cable with a USB-A connector on either end of it.

That's a two-pack of USB-C (male) to USB-A (female) plug adapters that can carry USB data at up to 5 Gbps (USB 3.0 speed). The same comments apply as for the cables, with respect to not supporting DisplayPort Alt Mode or Power Delivery.
