I have been an itunes user for decades now. I like the organization of music / videos/ tv etc.
Over that time I have either imported or downloaded a vast library. I have recently noticed that
large swaths of my library are just gone. Seems like Apple just decided to delete my library.

If you have your music library on your computer, Apple does not have a process to delete music from your hard drive. If you have an Apple Music subscription and you opt to remove your music your computer and choose to stream the music, it is possible that some music may become unavailable due to copyright holder withdrawing it.
Have you changed computers? Did you follow the following: Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community
Have you recently upgraded your os. See the following: Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrad… - Apple Community
Do you have a backup of your music? If so you can restore missing items from it.

Multiple albums that I imported to itunes and or downloaded decades ago are now gone!
