iPad Model A2228 has black screen pink lines

I was reading an eBook, shifted over to a youtube briefly and the iPad went to a black screen with thick pulsating pink lines. I cannot turn it off or reset it. Below is what I see. I am letting the device electrically die . What do I do about this?

Connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:


Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.





If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.


If you continue to experience difficulties, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Unless your iPad has a suffered a hardware failure, when performed correctly your iPad will respond to a forced-restart. The sequence and timing of the button presses to trigger the restart are critical.


In the event of a hardware failure, you might best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to offer assistance:

I can't even turn it off, to re-start it.I also tried all the re-start things on Apple help. So I left it on in a safe place just in case something goes awry with the lithium battery not that that is what the problem is. It is feeding juice into the system. I figure that if I can shut it down by draining the battery then try the start things that Apple says to do. If that doesn't work then the problem is a hardware problem and I am probably out of luck. Fortunately the stuff I have on it is either duplicated on iCloud, Dropbox, and one drive. I get back on the plane in a week and really want to be able to turn off. I don't trust lithium batteries.

As for the genious bar as soon as i get it turned off and to a city with an Apple store I'll will go and have them look at it. That may be a few days. But I don't want to get on the plane with this thing still running. My old macbook pro still works okay (though the keyboard is a problem - 2 of the keys and counting stick - so am using a bluetooth keyboard from an iMac.) Yes I am planning on re-investing but research grant money is tough to get. :-)

I did the routine graciously contributed by LotusPilot, but to no avail. I thought I had done that and I did do it. I did a search on this problem before coming to the community and that was one of the things I did try. But it is good to make sure. One other thing, the little wheel that comes up when the device is thinking and doing something usually spins. It does come but it doesn't spin. I'll keep trying the routine multiple times just in case.
