Volume of notifications coming through iPhone louder when connected to a Bluetooth speaker

Hi,


I have an iPhone SE 2020 running iOS 17.5. When my phone is connected to a Bluetooth speaker, the notification sound, coming through the phone and not the speaker, is increased.


  • Even if the notification volume in the settings is at the lowest level
  • Whether the phone is on silent or ring mode, meaning if I click on the notification sound in the settings (in silent mode, if I receive a message, I obviously won't hear the notification)
  • Regardless of the different notification sounds in the settings
  • Even if I classify the speaker as "Device Type: Speaker" in the Bluetooth settings. When classified as "Car Stereo," "Headphones," "Hearing Aid," or "Other," the notification sound is heard directly through the speaker.
  • The notification volume is directly increased even after forgetting the Bluetooth device and reconnecting it, without even classifying the device according to the "Device Type."


I don't have this problem on my second device, an iPhone 8 running iOS 16.7.7. In fact, when connected to the Bluetooth speaker, the notification volume coming through the iPhone 8 is even further decreased, even if the notification volume bar in the settings is already at the minimum!


Tested on a JBL Charge 4 and a Bose SoundLink Micro.


Why does my iPhone SE 2020 on iOS 17.5 do this, but not the iPhone 8 on iOS 16.7.7? The notification volume increase is really annoying.

Unfortunately, I have tried with other types of Bluetooth devices and the problem still persists. I don't think it's the fault of the Bluetooth devices, but rather the iPhone itself.
