Unable to force iPad restart after "home" app bugs out

I accidentally opened the home app earlier, and the pop-up glitched and refused to close. I am unable to unlock the iPad to use Siri to restart, nor am I able to force restart since I cannot use the "swipe to restart" bar. Is the only way to fix this to wait for the iPad to die? If so, what do I do if that doesn't work?

To force restart your iPad, carefully follow these instructions. A forced restart does not rely upon any interaction with the iPad screen...

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and continue to hold the top button; do not release the top button until you see the Apple logo.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

  1. Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. Do not release the buttons until you see the Apple logo.
  2. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
