IOS17.5.1 Folder for flagged emails displays incorrect count

NOTE: I’d select the Mail app for topic but, after 10 years, Apple doesn’t seem to think Mail should be listed in the “Apps & Services” listing.

This bug has existed for almost 10 years now. Unbelievable.

I have 4 flagged emails. Four.

Mail on my M2 MacBook, MacOS 14.5, displays a count of 11

Mail on my M4 iPad Pro, iPadOS 17.5.1, displays a count of 8

Mail on my iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 17.5.1, displays a count of 10

None of these counts are correct.

So far, I have:

  1. Turned off mail on all 3 devices then on again.
  2. Removed the mail account from all 3 devices and then re-installed.
  3. Performed 1 and 2 above while rebooting all devices
  4. Removed the “Envelope*” files from the Mac while all devices were disabled. Mail on the Mac briefly displayed a correct cound while rebuilding, then reverted to the incorrect count.
  5. Unflagged all messages (all 3 counts were reduced by 4 but still incorrect).
  6. Tried changing the flag color. The color synced across devices correctly but the bad counts were unchanged.

I’ve been a Mac user and developer for 22 years now. Please spare me the “just reinstall all OSs” BS.

A simple search in this forum and on the web will reveal the problem has been around FOREVER.

I do have my flag colors labeled, like “Important”, Save”, etc. But after removing those labels, no luck.

Fixing this should be a no-brainer.
