Apple Pay issue on iphone

Have just set up a new phone (reconditioned iPhone mini 13) and now when I try to pay with Apple Pay everything looks fine (ie. when I double tap, cards are all verified) but when I tap on the machine the payment won’t go through. I have tried deleting all cards and have restarted the phone and tried again but same issue. Any ideas how I can fix this or check if Near Field Communication is working? Thanks

Normally, cards cannot be added if NFC is not working, but this could be an exception.


Is your iPhone inside a case? Some cases have been known to affect NFC signal strength.


Apple Support can perform remote diagnostics on your iPhone and test the NFC module. You can also schedule a Genus Bar appointment at an Apple Retail Store if that is more convenient. If you’re in the US please call 1-800-MY-APPLE or outside the US, consult the support article below.
