MacBook Pro M3 for Architectural Studies

If anyone has used or is using an M3 MacBook Pro as an architecture student, what do you have to say about your experience using it? Would you recommend it to other students? How did you tackle the software incompatibility?

I agree with Bob 100%.

The other issue is that as profs and curricula change, so may the software required. You may be able to start with a Mac but find that a new prof or instructor opts to use a Windows-only app. Like books, apps are the prof's prerogative. So even contacting the school today may not tell you what you will need in two years.

Our son made it to his senior year of computer engineering school with a MacBook Pro, doing his coding in Terminal. Then a new prof chose a Win-only app for one the the required senior-level courses, and we had to buy a Windows computer so he could finish up.

I've always been a Mac user but, for engineering and architecture sciences, I feel the choice for best future-proofing is a Windows computer. Make sure you get one with enough horsepower to do renderings. The school may have advice over min specs you need.

If you are looking for a computer as a student studying architecture, contact the school of architecture at the university you will be attending and ask them what computer best meets the requirements of the course of study. As a student you can not have "software incompatibility". You need to be 100% compatible with the course of study, other students, and with your professors.
