Does Apple limit the number of podcast episodes I can download?

My phone is deleting old podcasts as new ones come out. I want to listen to old ones but they have disappeared from my phone. It seems to be limited to 100 episodes (at least for the one show I prefer).

Please do not tell me to change my settings (automatically download or delete after played). I've messed with all that, including turning off "Hide Played Episodes." It does not change a thing.

This is happening on my ipad and my iphone. Strangely, my macbook keeps them forever. But if I forward an episode to one of my other devices, it says it is not available for play.
