External drive not mounting after Sonoma update

Updated a Mini M1 to SONOMA and ran into a problem with a ZOOM H6 audio recorder using a memory card not mounting onto the desktop.

I pluged the recorder into an M2 Macbook running SONOMA and it showed up perfectly.

MacBook Pro 14 M2 2023 Ventura 13.2 (and 13.2.1) Not recognising Verbatim or Dell USB CD/DVD Writer I’ve been reading about the issue’s people were having with Pioneer USB Optical drives not working since Ventura 13.2 as I’ve just got my first MacBook Pro 14” M2 2023 which started off with Ventura 13.2 and the only thing I haven’t got working is both of my CD/DVD Writers (Dell and a brand new Verbatim USB-C DVD Writer). Both when plugged in to all of my USB-C ports cause the ‘Allow Accessory Device” prompt which I of course allow. However after doing so nothing is detected or shows up on the system in Finder. Both drives immediately upon plugging in to the MacBook also just blink the led light at the front of the drive and make a continuous tick noise with the blinking of the light. I’ve been waiting for a fix for this and saw some say after installing 13.2.1 their Pioneer drives are now being recognised. So I updated the MacBook OS to 13.2.1 and excitedly connected my Verbatim drive. No change whatsoever. Tried the Dell drive and same problem still. What’s going on? Everything else works perfect. My external USB SanDisk SSD works perfectly on any of the USB-C ports as does memory sticks etc. Just not either of my external USB optical drives. I read about resetting SMC and NVRAM but then realised this isn’t something you need to do with Apple Silicon M1/M2 chips. Please help!

Unable to use USB-powered devices with MacBook Air M1 2020 I just bought this MacBook Air M1 2020 (Ventura 13.2.1), and I got the official Apple USB-C to USB Adapter to plug in things like an external hard drive, or external DVD/CD drive. Little things that are powered by the machine they are plugged into to work. But they aren't working. My WD Passport for Mac will try its best, blinking its indicator light at me, but the drive doesn't show up in the Finder sidebar. My Samsung Portable DVD writer will sometimes work, but mostly it just sort of pulses in an attempt to read the disc, or it will work for a while and then stop, so then I can't open it to remove the disc without plugging the usb into a wall socket. (Oddly it seems to have more trouble with Japanese import music CDs, but that may be a coincidence.) I changed the system settings in Privacy & Security>Allow accessories to connect to "Always" I'm not getting any error messages about USB devices not having enough power, or using too much power, or anything. Are my MacBook Air ports having issues, is it a bad adapter, or is there a fix to make the MacBook Air power the devices consistently?

Open Activity Monitor in Utilities, View>All Processes, sort on Name, see if fsck is running, if so force quit it.
