Refreshing Find My

It’s been years now (4 and counting) since this was first asked as a problem … how do you refresh the current location of a person or device in Find My iPhone? A long press or closing and reopening the app do not work.

iPhone X, iOS 16

When you open Find My, it will display information that is available at the time.

If the phone is not found.....Find My has not been enabled on the iPhone that you are looking for.

If "Offline" is displayed......there are several reasons why this might occur:

  • The battery has run down
  • The phone has been powered off
  • The phone does not have an Internet connection where it is currently located

In cases of theft, thieves are very fond of placing a phone in a special type of bag that will not allow the phone to either send or receive a signal. Obviously, an update on the location of the phone is not possible in this very common situation.

Hi Blestmom4,

Could you elaborate more on what you’re trying to do? When I open my Find My app and click on a device or person that shares their location with me it updates in real time. Sometimes when I click on people I can see the loading symbol showing that it is refreshing and see if there is an update.

I noticed you’re writing this from an iPhone X on iOS 16. It might be possible your iOS version is affecting Find My’s results, but I cannot speak to that for certain.
