Microsoft AutoUpdate (Install In Progress) is stuck on MacBook Pro. Force quite doesn't help and I can't restart my MacBook.

Hi,

I have an Apple MacBook Pro (2021) running on the Apple M1 Pro chip. I was trying to restart my MacBook and then the 'Install in Progress' window popped up. I wasn't even aware this was running in the background. I have tried the following steps but nothing seems to work.

1. I tried to Force Quit the app. It does quit but when I try to restart my MBP the Install in Progress reappears and won't allow me to restart.

2. I searched for resolution on here and one of them was to open a MS app (I opened Word), went to Help>Check for Updates and from there look for the Install in Progress app and move to bin, but I can't move that to the bin.

3. I even went to Activity Monitor and tried to quit the 'Microsoft AutoUpdate' but I can't seem to do that.

I am just stuck and can't restart my MBP at all. Can anyone help pls!!

Thanks,

Suraj
