How to delete imessage photos

after deleting an iMessage, if i go to text that person again, and click on info-->photos all the photos i have previously sent in the deleted message show up again in photo box. i have tried to select the photos in the photo info section and delete them, but they do not delete. they delete, i come out of contact and go back in and they reappear.

Hi moonwalker2,


I ran into this recently, but was able to find a workaround!


  1. Open Messages.
  2. Tap the Search field.
  3. Search the individual / group name and select the “Messages from: <individual’s name>
  4. You’ll notice you can further filter messages received.
    1. Select Photo
    2. These will show the similar photos or more than the info sections does.
    3. Tap on the photo you want to delete.
    4. You should be brought to the location in your text messages where that photo exists
    5. Tap and hold on the photo you want to remove.
    6. Select More…
    7. Tap on the photo(s) you want to delete (you should notice a blue checkmark to the left of the texts or photos selected).
    8. Once done, click the Trash icon in the lower left.


This worked for me! I hope it helps you as well.
