CONTACT VERIFICATION KEY
I was just wondering if turning on the contact verification key is recommended- or is it just another thing that can go wrong

Contact Key Verification is an extra step to verify you’re talking to who they say they are. You can learn more about it here - Apple advances user security with powerful new data protections - Apple. Basically if an unknown device was added to someone’s Apple ID you’d get notified before sending a message. You could also alert that friend/family member that an unknown device is on their account and they can take appropriate action.
