Is it possible to use my iPhone 15 Pro as a hub without internet to connect 2 Nintendo Switches?

My partner and I will be taking a very long flight (9+ hours) tomorrow evening. We each have Nintendo Switches and we'd like to play Mario Kart or Super Smash against each other, each using our own device. Is it possible to set up my iPhone 15 Pro as hub, where we can each connect our Switches to the phone and play against each other as if we were on our home WiFi network?

We've tried doing this before by each connecting the "free for messaging" Delta/airplane in-flight WiFi, but this does not work because Delta limits the data transfer to messaging apps only. My thought is that is we could use the iPhone itself as the hub, it SHOULD be able to allow our Switches to communicate locally even without any internet connection whatsoever. Is there a way to do this? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Unlikely to work, since the iPhone's Hotspot feature requires an active cellular connection which won't be available in flight.

However, the Nintendo Switches should be able to connect directly to each other for local play without any additional hardware.

The consoles connect directly to each other wirelessly, allowing you to play

together in private matches even if there is no internet connection or

local WiFi available. https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Support/Nintendo-Switch/How-to-Use-the-Local-Wireless-Play-Feature-of-Mario-Kart-8-Deluxe-1515604.html
