iMovie: video with existing/on-time subtitles is delayed on iMovie

I uploaded a .mov video to iMovie with existing, well-timed subtitles.

Once added into my iMovie project, the subtitles show up late.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I would try re-encoding the .mov video and see if that brings things into sync when you import the re-encoded vid into iMovie. Put the vid on your desktop and control-click on it. In the pop-up menu that appears click on Encode Selected Files. A re-coded video will be created, in addition to your original that will be preserved.

Hi,

The resolution shouldn't make a difference. It seems more like a sync problem.

You might try deleting preferences, as that procedure often cures a wide range of problems. To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if your subtitles are in sync. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.
