Strange double/overlayed photos

We use our IPhone 15 for selling second hand clothing, and we have consistently had this strange problem with photographing anything black. We’ve tried a few different settings and zoom levels, but nothing changes. As you can see in the photos, there is a duplicate image slightly overlayed to the right of the photos. It doesn’t happen every time, but it is always with black items that have some kind of shiny detail.

It seems strange that such a nice quality camera has this weird issue. Any suggestions?

I wonder if you have HDR turned on? This is High Dynamic Range. HDR means that the camera is able to resolve the difference between very bright and very dark portions of a picture. This sounds really cool, and it can be.

But here's the thing-- HDR works by taking several images at different exposures, and then combining them to extend the range of brightnesses. This is terrific if the camera is on a tripod and nothing moves, but when the camera is handheld, or the subject is moving, you can get multiple images.

I'd say that, if you have HDR enabled, you should turn it off in Settings>Camera>Smart HDR.

(I think the "Smart" part is why you don't get super obvious multiple exposures...)
