MacBook Air M2 - Pages - comments background randomly changes to black

When I'm working in Pages, the background randomly/unexpectedly changes from white to black. I can't figure out a trend, or what to do about it. Sometimes it happens - or fixes itself - if I close and reopen the file. Sometimes it happens - or fixes itself - if I don't touch the keyboard for a few minutes, like if I'm making a handwritten note about something.

I specifically bought this MacBook to use Pages for my freelance editing/proofreading job, and this really increases the headache factor.

Thanks for any help.

Pages comment boxes will appear with black backgrounds when the Settings > Appearance is set to Dark and with light backgrounds when the Appearance is set to Light. Other than that, I have never experienced comment boxes changing their background at random intervals or between document openings without a deliberate change in the Appearance settings. Never means in no past or present version of Pages or macOS where Appearance settings became available.

Are you using an Auto Appearance setting, or some third-party light/dark appearance utility that switches appearance based on time of day?

Currently using M2 Mac Mini Pro with Pages v14 and Sonoma 14.5.
