However I am running LibreOffice no issues...no mention of needing Java(?)

Could be your version of 7.6.7 is woefully outdated...

24.2.3 is for the " technology enthusiast, early adopter or power user,"

7.6.7 is "slightly older and does not have the latest features, but it has been tested for longer. "

I think that is only for certain database functions. Are you going to use it for that? If not, just ignore it.
