Is the Apple TV box powered? Does its status light glow continuously?
If your Apple TV isn't working, won't turn on, or shows a black screen - Apple Support

What brand and model is that? In case it matters.
No response from control to box
Verify that the TV is set to take input from the HDMI port to which the Apple TV box is connected. You should be able to configure this in the TV settings (“Source” or “Input”).
This might be automated by turning on CEC on both devices:

For the TV: See its manual. The TV may have a brand-specific trade name for CEC.
