Removing learned remote codes from Apple Tv

I would LOVE to just redo the procedure but the Apple TV won't let me because all but the codes for two buttons entered are correct and I can't get to those until I redo the buttons proceeding them in the programming order with commands are correct. When I try to redo the preceding correct buttons to get to the ones needing correction my Apple TV won't accept re-entering the same codes into those preceding buttons and tells me "This button is already on use". I would have to enter wrong codes for all the proceeding buttons to get to the ones needing correction, and then those two would then be right but all the preceding ones would then be wrong.

If you could simply move the highlight to the button you want to using the navigation keys or trak pad on the Apple factory remote and could then only redo the buttons needed, the problem would already be solved. But Apple has made doing that impossible and made it so you can ONLY get to the buttons you need to correct by redoing all the previous buttons in the order THEY require to get to the ones that need correcting, but then won't allow you to use the codes already used (and correct) to do that. Only DIFFERENT codes are allowed, and if any of the codes for proceeding buttons don't need changing you are then up the creek. This is a really badly designed setup protocol and even the folks at Apple believe that the only way to correct my mistake is to completely reset the entire Apple TV to original factory settings and setup the whole box completely from scratch like it just came out of the box for the first time. It looks I'll have to spend the next day or two setting the entire Apple TV up and setting up every app all over again to correct this. Why Apple chose to implement a setup procedure for this feature that doesn't allow correcting a simple error made while setting it up the first time is beyond me.

Luckily, Apple is a very respectable company that admits it's error and will be compensating me in their own way to make up for the inconvenience caused--and I'm happy with what they've offered. But it sure would have been nice if it was designed so that wasn't necessary in the first place.
