How to selectively back up apps to the iCloud?

I wish to back up selective Apps (Contacts, Calandars,Reminders} to the Cloud and be available to all my devices: IPhone, Ipad, Mac) and back up my phone and ipad to thr Mac via Finderand backvup the Mac via Time Machine. HOW

iCloud sync and backup confusion I have an iMac desktop and a new iPhone 16 Pro. I use iCloud for syncing and have been using it for backing up both devices too. But I am starting to feel really confused about these features. I know I can choose which apps to sync and which apps to backup, but I struggle to get my head around exactly which apps NEED to be synced or backed up. Am I understanding the following points correctly? apps that are already cloud based such as Trello, Google Calendar, Gmail, Facebook etc - really don't need syncing OR backing up, as they are always accessible from both devices and should sync on the servers? The only things I need to synch to iCloud are default Apple apps, and other apps that I use on BOTH devices, so that I am always getting the "live" version regardless of which device I am on? Anything I only use on one device, does not need syncing to iCloud? Backups - it is only app data that is being backed up and system settings? Not actual apps? So if I ever need to restore from a backup, the restore process with automatically re-install those apps based on the data that has been backed up? I am probably well and truly over thinking this, but I don't want to pay for anymore additional storage than I am already paying for, and I feel like I may well be synching and backing up things I really don't need to. If anyone can enlighten me I would be very grateful.

How to back up data in non-Apple apps on iPad? I am migrating to a new iPad. Is there a way to make sure that the data in non-Apple 3rd party apps is safely backed up or saved on my Mac? I found a 2023 Community iPhone discussion that said you have to rely on the 3rd party to back up your data on its servers. A side effect is that if you no longer have an account with that 3rd party or that app is no longer available, you will likely lose all that data, purchased or not. I lost 3rd party data the last time I bought an iPad, so I'm hoping I can avoid it this time, and that maybe Apple has kindly given us a way to do this now? Fingers crossed, and thanks for any help you can provide. -mj

How can I back up my iPhone data using iCloud? In iCloud back up list there are only apps, so I can not back up iOS. How will I change settings to back up also my iphone Apple data-not apps only? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Apps are not saved to iCloud. App data can be synced by enabling iCloud at Settings > Apple IID > icloud
