USB Thumb Drive Capacity??

Will MacOS Sonoma (14.5) support a 16 TB Flash drive?? It arrived formatted for PC (FAT) and I can't get Disk Utility to format it. Is there another disk util that can format this thumb drive for MacOS Extended??

I have another thumb drive I've been using (USB-A) which is 2 TB, but now have a MacBook Air with only USB-C. The new thumb drive has USB-C.

There's no such thing as a 16TB thumb/pen drive. Legitimate drives, as dialabrain noted, cost well over $1,000. A 4TB drive costs $600.

See this page on how they fake large sizes on drives that can't possibly hold that much data. This is just one of many such sites.

Or, you can get a great deal on a 16TB drive for only 71¢ here! Heck, the shipping costs more than the drive.

How did they get a drive that says a trusted name like Lenevo on it and call it a 16TB drive? From what I read a week or so ago, as they manufacture these storage chips, there's a rather high failure rate. Instead of grinding these failed chips down - as they should - they sell these useless chips to low tier manufacturers. Mainly in China. That's how they end up on the market at all in these clearly fake products.

Disk Utility tells me it's 16.78 TB, but it came formatted for a PC. The 2 TB thumb drive came formatted for PC, but easily erased and formatted for MacOS. Ideally, I wanted two partitions, one for work materials, the other for personal, but I can't erase this even for a single partition.

There were size options available for 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB, 8 TB, and 16 TB.
