Image (DMG) Resize Failed

Hello,

I have created an encrypted disk image from a selected folder through the Disk Utility. The settings were set to read/write, 128 bits of encryption.

The size/capacity of this disk image is created with 'only' 9.4 MB by default. Since there does not seem to be an option to indicate capacity for the disk image during setup, I will need to increase it after the disk image has been created.

I have tried doing so following the recommended steps by Apple Community:

Disk Utility: Images --> Resize --> (select .dmg)

I am then prompted the following error:

"Image resize failed. The selected disk image can't be resized."

This is not because it the image is already mounted. I made sure to unmount the image first to make it available.

What can I do to mitigate the error?

Aha! I misunderstood the key difference between 'Image from Folder' and 'New Image' ... which makes perfect sense now.

'Image from folder' will take the capacity of the existing (and selected) folder along into the image. A fixed given.

'New image' will require the user to specify an image size/capacity among the other options. Then simply transfer the files.

Thank you!

When you create an image from a folder, it is fixed at that size. You must create an image that is r/w and the size you want, then copy the folder contents into the mounted image.
