I upgraded from a Mac Mini (late 2012) to a Mac Mini 2018. I have an Eizo CG241W monitor connected using a HDMI/DVI adapter. When I unplug the adapter from the MM2012 and plug it into the MM2018 all I get is 'snow'. If I go back to the 2012 the picture is perfect. What is the problem?

The 2018 Mac has Thunderbolt/USB-C and not Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort like the 2012 Mac mini.
What you need is a USB-C to DVI adapter and DVI cable or a USB-C to DVI cable for the 2018 Mac mini.

No. It's the same cable that came with the monitor. It might be a metre. Like I said, I am just unplugging the monitor from the MM2012 and plugging it into the MM2018 with the same HDMI adapter attached. I went to the Apple Store and they suggested plugging the computer into a TV with HDMI ports. I did this successfully using a longer cable with HDMI plugs at both ends (no adapter). It worked but I can't use my 55" TV in my office as my monitor.

The Eizo CG241W is a 24" 1920x1200 monitor with coverage of 96% of Adobe RGB. It appears to have two DVI inputs, either of which can accept a digital (single-link) or analog signal.

How long is the cable connecting the HDMI/DVI adapter to the new Mac? Is it a something better than one of the original HDMI cables made for 720p and 1080i TVs?
You can get and test a USB-C to DVI adapter > usb-c to dvi adapter
However' I also recommend replacing that old VGA/DVI monitor with a newer display.
DVI has been obsolete for more than a decade. Best IMO to upgrade your monitor too and then connect with HDMI-HDMI direct. Good luck!
Use the hdmi and an adapter (hdmi to dvi) and it should work. You will also find cable with one end hdmi and the other dvi.
DVI might have been superseded but the monitor is definitely not obsolete. It works perfectly with the DVI to HDMI adapter I’m using now. I just don’t understand why it doesn’t work when I simply unplug it from the old computer and plug it into the new one. If the new computer has a HDMI port it should work. I thought it might be driver issue. Thanks for your help.
I’ve been using the HDMI to DVI adapter on the old computer since 2012. Works perfectly. All I’m doing is unplugging it from the socket in the old computer and plugging it into the new one. Thanks for your help.
