My Mac Studio wakes up unexpectedly from sleep mode.

My Mac Studio M2 goes into sleep mode as expected, but it wakes up after about 5 minutes and then goes back to sleep after around 30 seconds. It appears that only the monitor wakes up since the login screen does not show. This issue occurs when using a USB-3 to Thunderbolt connection. However, it works fine when using HDMI to HDMI.


My Mac mini from 2018, does not have this issue.


I have followed the guidelines on the Apple Support page titled If your Mac sleeps or wakes unexpectedly - Apple Support, but they didn't help.

What make and model is the display...?

Is there a 5 minute sleep or standby timer set in the Displays onboard menu...?


The Silicone Mac's do not do Computer Sleep the same as Intel Mac models.

As a test:

Turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping when display is off" and only allow the display to turn off.

Leave the Mac ON during the day and allow the display to turn OFF after 10 or 15 minutes.

Then leave on or shut down for longer periods of non-use and overnight, if desired.

If you do not like or wish to leave the Mac Studio awake with the display off, then Sleep and ignore the 5 minute for 30 second thing.
