I currently have an iPhone X on iOS 16.7.8 and have no problems. After you update the OS, the device will reindex the files in the background and also analyze your pictures with updated meta data for a couple of hours. Some people immediately jump to the conclusion that their device runs slower after the update. This happens after every update and you just need to wait for those processes to complete.

76% is not healthy — being below Apple's recommended 80% for replacing the battery. Do not update iOS with the battery in that state. Instead, have the weak, aging battery replaced sooner rather than later — because a degraded battery such as yours can result in 'bricking' that iPhone.
