microsoft autoupdate no longer working

I have Office 365 on my Mac running the most current macOS Sonoma 14.5... Microsoft Autoupdate used to work and seemingly had new updates way often... Now, none, since March, 2024... I forced it to "check for updates" this morning and it just sits and spins FOREVER... Doesn't even time out... Clearly something is broken... Any ideas how to get it working again???? I would far rather ask here than go over on the Microsoft side though I will if nothing helps here... thanks...
