Sonoma 14.5 Hotmail account issue (AADSTS500200 error) personal Microsoft account

I was getting mad after having activated 2-FA on my hotmail account, my Mac was constantly complaining about the account's password, so I did switch off 2-FA.

I then deleted the (existing) Hotmail account in the MacOS Mail app, and tried to re-create it... as an Exchange account (this is the right choice, as far as I know...).

As soon as I try to create the account (in the Mail app), after the logon attempt, I get an error

AADSTS500200: User account 'xxxxxx@hotmail.com' is a personal Microsoft account. Personal Microsoft accounts are not supported for this application unless explicitly invited to an organization. Try signing out and signing back in with an organizational account.

I can create the mail account by selecting 'Add Other Account' (although only for mails and notes then), but I want to use the 'Exchange' account type !!!

Not sure if you're still having this issue. I was right there with you until a couple of minutes ago.

I had previously signed into my email@hotmail.com account but could no longer get it to work. I also have the same alias on outlook.com. Changing my email login to outlook.com and the MS MFA popped up the MS Authenicator login and I got in the first try. Since it's the same account, I deleted the "hotmail" version under the Mac's Internet Accounts. HTH

FWIW, I use MS Outlook as my primary email client, but wanted my hotmail/outlook personal account added for calendars, contacts, etc.

You could download Outlook off of the App Store and use that instead of Mail.

Same issue... so frustrating!!! And I agree... want all email together. The only thing I've done that has worked (usually... not consistently), is open hotmail in a browser window. I don't use that window, but when it is open and signed in, the password on the Mac ap seems to work most of the time. VERY frustrating!
