Console not responding! How to delete plist?

Hi All,
The console app does not respond when I open it. It just beachballs continually.

I am trying to delete the plist file but I can't find it. I'm assuming it would be called com.apple.console.plist but there is no such file on my computer. -None that I can find either through a search or via looking in the prerences folders.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Hi Felix,

I suspect you were looking at the root directory Preferences folder as opposed to the user directory Preference folder.

The console.plist file does exist in ~/Library/Preferences and is, indeed, called com.apple.Console.plist

There is another preference file called com.apple.Console.LSSharedFileList.plist which you can also remove as a diagnosis step.

Hi again Felix,

If CT's further advice doesn't yield any results, try manually downloading and installing the 10.6.4 Combo update:

http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1048

I see from your signature that you have 10.6.3 installed. If there's a reason why you have not updated to 10.6.4 then download and install the 10.6.3 v1.1 Combo update:

HI Da Vinci,

-My apologies, I should have adjusted my signature for this one. It's actually my wifes iMac that has this issue and it's an intel iMac from Jan 2009. We haven't upgraded her machine to snow leopard as it would involve upgrading photoshop -the version we have doesn't work with 10.6! So she's on 10.5.6 at the moment.

No problem.

In that case, if the 'repair permissions' thing doesn't work, either download and install the 10.5.6 Combo Update:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10-5-6_ComboUpdate

... or use Software Update to update to 10.5.8. As she's on 10.5.6 this will automatically list the Combo Update anyway.
