How can I open iTunes while it's being updated on my MacBook Pro?

Hi all,

Every time I try to open iTunes I get a message that it is updating.

This is the message...."You can’t open the application “iTunes” because it is being updated."

This has been like this for several days, I cannot open iTunes.

Any ideas about what I can do.

My MacBook Pro is a 2011 model High Sierra Version 10.13.6
