How can I adjust mouse click settings on my Mac mini for Pages and Numbers?

I keep having to double click to activate where the mouse pointer is in Pages, Numbers and web pages, I see nothing in Pointer Control to control single click. If I click in a line of text and start typing it fills in where the mouse previous was, not where I clicked, this is incredibly annoying and a big waste of time.
