Health App export zip file cannot be opened

I am trying to export my health app data from my iPhone (iOs 17.5.1). When I try to open the 'export.zip' file on my MacMini M1 (Sonoma 14.5), I get an error 'Error -1 No such process'

I have tried with different apps and also from the terminal, so I am guessing the problem lies with the file creation.

Anyone else having this issue and is there a way around it?

Mac mini, macOS 14.5

Please describe in detail what you are attempting when you say "when I try".

I have tried with different apps

That's probably the cause of the problem. The operating system has built-in support for zip files. If you download other zip tools, you will likely break support for zip files entirely.

and also from the terminal

That's another big can-o-worms. Most advice on the internet regarding macOS Terminal is wrong. If you have installed a Terminal app called "Homebrew", then you'll likely have to erase your hard drive and reinstall the operating system. Most people are unable to recover after their system has been corrupted by Homebrew.

Nope. I just tried it. I send the export to my computer using AirDrop. Then I double-clicked on "export.zip" to open it. For good measure, I also did "unzip export.zip" from the command line. Both worked perfectly.

unfortunately there is no option to select what kind of file to export. It only exports as a zip

Just tried and yes as a .zip file

Normally .zip files are decompressed as per link below

Zip and unzip files and folders on Mac

  • Unzip (expand) a compressed item: Double-click the .zip file.
  • The unzipped item appears in the same folder as the .zip file. If you want to, you can delete the .zip file.
  • Note: If you can’t open the .zip file, make sure you have enough space on your Mac for the unzipped item. If you received the .zip file from someone else, there might be a problem with the file. Ask them to zip the file again and resend it.
