Image Capture on Mac is BROKEN using iOS 17.x on iPhone

Prior to the latest iOS upgrade (17.5) on the iPhone SE20, Image Capture worked with my MB Pro 2012 running High Sierra. After the upgrade, Image Capture does NOT see my iPhone as a device. Nor does Photos work for importing my images. The only way now to import is via AirDrop (very InConvenient!).

My call to Apple Tech responded by saying the only fix is to upgrade to the latest Catalina OS - the latest the MB Pro 2012 can take. This upgrade, unfortunately will break some proprietary software, so this is not an option. And, after reading the previous thread re: this same issue, Catalina upgrade DOES NOT fix Image Capture and iOS 17.x.

Apple, if you're reading this, we all use our cameras...er, phones for a more primary purpose of capturing images. Please fix Image Capture as it is software that came on Mac. Your breaking it and forcing us to upgrade is not an option, nor is forcing us to use iCloud Photos (I remember software that was discontinued after switching to it ((AppleWorks!)). Sorry, I no longer trust you to keep upgrading software. Nor would I trust you with my images as I professional photographer.

Time to fix the software that came with our computers when we bought them and the iPhone, expecting them to work together!

When you plug in your iPhone with its USB cable do you get this window?

I get it after each system update, security update, etc and click on Install. It installs some minor code so that the System can communicate with the iPhone'x iOS.

That model MBP can run Catalina, 15.7, as the latest system. You should upgrade to Catalina and should be able to use Image Capture with your iPhone.

You could get an external SSD and clone your system to it with Carbon Copy Cloner, boot from it and upgrade to Catalina. Then you can verify if you can use Image Capture as you'd like. The most inexpensive method of doing that, though not the fastest, is this:

I always install a new system similarly to check compatibility before committing on my iMac.

Have not seen this window in quite a while. I know what to look for and Apple has not released (read does not support High Sierra anymore) any updates for existing software. All threads on the previous same topic relate that iOS 17.x broke Image Capture. Again, software updates, iOS or OS, should not disable previous working software - I'm not paid to be a Beta Tester. . See orig post for why this is not a solution.
