How to get Texshop to open a recent tex file on launch

I updated my TexShop to its newest version 5.36 yesterday and it worked as usual then. This morning I wanted to continue working on a tex file and Texshop would not open the latex file at all but just sat there doing nothing. I run a Macbook Pro under Sonoma 14.5.

I then fiddled with its settings and suddenly a slew orf resent worked on latex and their pdf files appeared on screen. It was impossible to x the pdf files, but when I x ed a tex file both the tex and pdf disappeared, leaving me eventually with just one latex file which I could alter and work on.

Something is wrong with the settings of TexShop and I wonder what settings should be altered.

TeXShop is not an Apple product and you should be in touch with the developer with any questions. Also, review its Help menu as there is a plethora of helpful information there.

Locate and single-click on any .tex file in the Finder. Press option+cmd+i to open the Finder Info panel. In its Open With section, choose TeXShop as the default opening application, then click the Change All… button and its Continue button. This will allow you to double-click a .tex document and have it open in TeXShop.

TeXShop also has a File menu > Open Recent menu for previously opened documents.
