Why does my 512GB MacBook Air comes with 494.38GB of storage?

i bought a macbook air with 512GB and it only comes with 494.38GB. why is this

512GB is the raw capacity of the drive from the factory. This is what appears in the tech specs.

494.38GB is the usable capacity after the raw drive has been formatted.


The difference is perfectly normal, has been as long as there have been drives. No drive, whatever the raw capacity, has the full, raw capacity after it has been formatted.
