MacBook Pro Typing Issue - Top Two Rows

Hello,

When I press the top row of numbers, it will also type out the letter underneath and vice versa. Say I type the letter Q and it will type out Q1 or if I type the number 2 it will type out 2w.

I’ve cleaned the keyboard and restarted the computer.

I now cannot get into my computer as my password contains letters from the top row and it is typing out random numbers as well.

please help.

You can plug in an external keyboard and compare your results.

I might suspect the keyboard hardware has a fault.

Software fixes , reference : Typing q, w, e etc. gives q1, w2, e3 on M… - Apple Community

A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies, you do not have to log in here...no harm in trying however.

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled temporarily.

Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

On Intel mac—

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

(hold to get at least three continuous rounds of the chimes when resting the NVRAM, no harm there)

if no resolve—

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
