How to use Directory Utility to manage groups in macOS?

Hello !

I am now looking into the Directory Utility,

viewing specifically at "Groups" and "/local/default"

and I see tons of users who I dont know...

they look like this "ABCDEFAB-CDEF-ABCD-EFAB-CDEF00000032". is this normal ?

Can someone please tell me ?

Thank you very much

Directory Utility is present on your Mac to Aid in configuring certain types of Directory Services, such a Microsoft Active Directory or an LDAP Directory Server. These can be deployed in very large organizations to centralize user and System Resource Administration.

In ordinary use for only one or a few Macs, or when you have NOT Deliberately set up such a Directory Server, the finely-detailed information you can glean from it is attest confusing and its use is simply NOT Appropriate.

You should be using System Preferences > Users& Groups to maintain your users and groups information locally.

If you would like to delve deeply into Directly Utility (for your own knowledge, NOT for application on a small group of Macs) use with a Directory Server, more details are available in this manual:

Directory Utility User Guide for Mac - Apple Support

Otherwise, put way that Utility and do not use it to modify anything, or you will soon be re-installing your MacOS.
