Having tons of issues with Macbook Pro 2017. As if device continues to run overnight and reset itself

I'm starting to have a ton of issues with my Macbook pro from 2017, especially related to opening it up after snoozing.

If I close the lid down overnight, it'll:

  • sometimes (but not always) reset the time - i will then have to go into the date and time settings and log in for it to revert to the correct time
  • continue to use battery overnight - even if I have a full battery when I close the lid, it will be drained to 10% in the morning or even be out of battery
  • often times, it's as if the device has completely shut down overnight, meaning I'll have to open all apps again. Because of this it is an absolute necessity that I save everything every evening, which is rather tiresome
  • often ask me to activate licenses to Word, PowerPoint etc. again - it will be as if the device has reset itself

Does anybody know how to solve all this? Any help would be much appreciated

On the Intel Mac—

Try resetting the System Management Controller Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

(get at least two-three rounds of the chimes when holding the NVRAM Reset)

for Date&Time issues you can uncheck the Automatic so you set it manually— no issue there as a viable option. Do what works.

if you still have an issue—

from the Terminal.app copy & paste:

sudo rm /var/db/timed/com.apple.timed.plist

this will remove the corrupt plist. reboot and compare your results

(note—your psswd will not echo on screen type it in anyway, use the enter\return key to proceed. Quit Terminal.)

verify your software is up to date…

The current stable release of Sonoma including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 14.5
