How can I convert ripped or downloaded songs in my library to Apple Music versions?

I have a pretty large library of music which consists mostly of songs I ripped from CD's and downloaded from various music services over the years. I have been using iTunes forever but only fairly recently started using Apple Music. I think my entire library is there when I sign into Apple Music, but if I build a playlist and try to share it with family/friends, they never get all the songs. I think it might be because some of the songs in the playlist are from my old ripped/downloaded library and aren't iTunes/Apple Music versions. Does that sound right? And if so, is there a way for me to easily replace all my ripped and downloaded songs with iTunes/Apple Music files? Thank you.
