Spotlight doesn't index iCloud files(?)

All the info I've found indicates Spotlight can't/doesn't/won't index iCloud files. Is this still the case?

If so, it seems kind of dumb for Apple to encourage people to sync their Desktop and Documents on iCloud, which makes them instantly unfindable with Spotlight.

Sidenote: apparently the "Calculate all sizes" option has no effect when viewing iCloud drives.

Can we prioritize Spotlight results in Sonoma? For example can I specify which file types return first in the list? If I want to see Folders first, then Documents, then Apps.

How to store iCloud Desktop files only in iCloud OSX Sonoma, M1 Mac Mini, 256GB/16GB My only regret with this particular Mac is the small SSD, I'm constantly struggling with space. I showed invisible files today, to have a look around to see what was taking up so much space. I saw that my Desktop (which I thought had been _moved_ to iCloud) seems to also be taking up 150GB of space on my very small internal drive. Has my Desktop been moved to iCloud, or is there a mirror on my internal drive for the files that are also in iCloud? If yes, is there a way to have those files _only_ stored in iCloud? I could really use that 150GB of space (for those apps that insist on using cache on the startup drive). Many thanks in advance for any insights, Chas
