MacOS Big Sur - Software Update

Good Day Everyone,

I hope all is going well.

I require a bit of guidance regarding an issue we're facing with one of our old iMacs at the school.

The iMac is currently running macOS Big Sur version 11.7.10. We have encountered a problem where the Pages app requires iOS 13 or later to download or update, which means that not all features will work on our current setup.

I have three questions:

  1. What is the latest software version to which macOS Big Sur can be updated?
  2. Is there an alternative method to download Pages on the iMac without needing to update to iOS 13 or later?

3.If the operating system is no longer supported, should we consider scrapping the old iMac and opting for a new iMac?

Thank you for your assistance.

Kind regards,

iMac 21.5″, macOS 11.7

1.

If your Macs are shown on macOS Ventura is compatible with these computers - Apple Support then yes, you can upgrade your Macs via Software Update, and in turn, install current versions of Pages, Numbers, or Keynote.

2.

The last compatible version of Pages, Numbers, or Keynote for macOS Big Sur is v12.1. Current versions (14.1) of these applications in the Mac App Store require macOS Ventura 13.* or later. Full versions of these Apple applications are only available through the Mac App Store.

3.

As macOS Big Sur is no longer supported by Apple, and if your Macs are too old to appear in that preceding link, then you have some replacement considerations if you want to stay current with Apple software.
