The M4 iPads are very recent and most software (including games) has not been optimized for the new chips. That’s typical of any software that utilizes both cpu and graphics. While the game will run, its best performance will be after the game (software code) is optimized.

Ask the support team at the game developers company when they expect to optimize for M4.

I have exact the same problem! In different games like Call of Duty mobile and Clash of clans. FPS drop like 20 to 30 when it appears. I found out that when rotating the screen or minimize game and come back the bug appears or disappears. Also find out that when turn on screen recording everything works flawlessly on 120 FPS with no problems at all. Using the 11 inch iPad Pro 256 GB WiFi + Cellular iPadOS 17.5.1

very annoying and I don’t know if the bug is on iPadOS/Apple side or game/app developers.

Hope that they fix this soon as I cannot use this iPad for nearly anything except safari and mail.

I just bought ipad M4 last night and faced the same fps drop issue and i instantly regret buying it. Would have been better for me to stick with m1 which was working flawlessly.
I should have done research before buying it 😔

Assuming that you have purchased your iPad Pro M4 directly from Apple - and you are unhappy with your new iPad - in most countries you have 14-days within which you may unconditionally return an undamaged device for exchange or refund.

I've been using the iPad Pro M2 for about a year and a half, and it's been working great. But when I recently upgraded to the new iPad Pro M4, I've noticed a big problem - the frame rate has dropped a lot.Instead of the smooth stable 120 fps it suddenly drops to less than 30 fps. It feels like I'm using an old, cheap phone instead of a high-end tablet.Apple needs to fix this frame rate issue as soon as possible. The performance drop is really noticeable and frustrating to deal with. I hope they can address this problem with a software update or something, because the iPad Pro M4 should be able to deliver much better performance.

I was ordering the M4 because my wife and kids bought an m2 for me a day before the release of the m4. I could still return the m2. I talked with a representative and she said there were issues that required app makers and 3rd party vendors to update their code. She was perfectly honest about trading the m2 in telling me I might be happier waiting. They gave me 90 days to keep using the m2, but after hearing about the troubles m4 users are having I believe I will hang on for a bit longer to the older model.
