Dell external monitor error from MacBook via USB-C to HDMI cable

Hi all, i'm receiving the error below when connecting MacBooks (varying hardware and macOS versions) to one model of Dell external monitor (SE2216H) via a USB-C to HDMI cable.

[Dell monitor error]

I've tested multiple monitors and multiple cables so there is no faulty hardware as such; as shown below, Sys Info confirms the connection but for some reason the resolution is set to 4K (the monitor definitely isn't 4K compatible) and the refresh rate is set to 25Hz (I'm unable to change this in Sys Settings > Displays).

[USB-C to HDMI cable not working correctly]

If I connect the same 'failing' MacBooks to the same monitors with an HDMI to HDMI cable via an Anker USB-C adapter, they work fine - as below.

[HDMI to HDMI cable via adapter working correctly]

The direct USB-C to HDMI connection does work with my Intel MacBook Pro 16" (same cable, same monitor), as below.

[MacBook Pro 16" working correctly]

I've tried booting into safe mode with no luck.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
