I just did an update to my computer and now all of my notes are gone. I had them saved under "on my mac" and now it wont let me even click it. How do I get them back?

If you have a backup of TimeMachine you have to look in the
Macintosh HD ›Users›Your Name >Library ›Group Containers > group.com.apple.notes
Did you do a restart after the update, if not give it a go and if no improvement restart in safe mode and see if that does the trick.
