I never had a privacy issue before this feature was introduced in 2021,

and still do not have a privacy issue...

I suspect it is one more feel good "feature" to help convince you to subscribe $$ to  iCloud+ . No thanks

Yes this is a known issue.

I have never used the new "Private relay", and still do no have your issue. I never felt it was a beneficial 'security' feature that added any significance...

Likewise VPN are not recommended if "privacy" is your concern....

The iCloud Private Relay is not a VPN. It works in Safari and limited certain apps only.

The speed when running Private Relay maintains from 80mbps upload; to 120mbps download. Compared to without running Private Relay I would get 800+mbps upload; and 1200+mbps download (See below screenshot).

On a single test, I got better results with Private Relay enabled than with it off. The two tests were within about 10% of each other.
