Hmm. Well, I've deselected Text Replacement, and, lo and behold, it's still telling me what I'm to write -- before I write it. It's quite maddening since what it thinks I am going to write is very often not what I was going to write, and I have to ignore what's on the screen to get on with my writing.

I'm not sure how clicking the ESC key is going to solve the general problem. But since I'm completely at sea here, I'm probably missing something.

What I observe with Pages v14.1 on Sonoma 14.5 is that it attempts to complete the correct word spelling while typing. For instance, I am typing "consci" and it uses light gray text to expand the word "conscience". I see no means to disable that behavior. Using an ESC key erases the predictive gray text and the space bar completes it. One can also right-click on the word and select ignore or learn spelling.

I have all Spelling and Grammar menu items disabled; Text Replacement is deselected; Pages > Settings > Auto-Correction items are deselected, and I see nothing in System settings (my Accessibility items are off) that may be sending hints to Pages to perform this completion. I also disabled Grammarly for Mac in Pages without any change in this preselection behavior.

When I write in pages, it doesn't show like a pop-up, it shows like this (gray text):

I've tried the solutions offered in this threat, but none of them have worked.

It is very distracting to write.

Has anyone else had a different solution that might work?

I don't want to download software to be able to write in peace just because this feature I didn't ask for.

Thank you!

What does anticipatory writing mean to you? One of your text replacements popping up offering to complete that string for you?

That can be fixed by deselecting Text Replacement in the Edit menu > Substitutions submenu.

If not the above, explain further. Are you on Sonoma 14.5 or have a Sequoia (macOS 15) beta installed? Pages v14.1?
