Deleted files issue

Hi,

I'm deleting files from a project to clear up some HD space, but after removing the files, the space is being re-taken due to background rendering tasks.

I'm removing the files from both the timeline and library, in the original files folder and transcoded media folder. Then emptying my trash.

That works fine, and clears up 50GB of space on my HD, but as soon as I open FCP again, I see files being rendered in the background, and I see my HD space shrink rapidly until I cancel background tasks.

Can anyone please explain why this is happening?

I'm using FCP 10.7.1 on an M1 Macbook pro.

Delete the proxies too. It is very unlikely that you will need it, and if that turns out to be the case, they can easily be created anew. Besides, there is a world of difference between a 2013 mac and and M1.

Thanks Ben. But will that delete the proxy files I have already rendered?

I’ve recently moved my library from a 2013 iMac to an M1 MacBook Pro. I’m not sure if I still need to use proxy media or if the new Mac is fast enough to handle the projects without proxy files.

Deleting render files doesn't touch proxies, they are not render files. And Proxies can be regenerated. If you look at the options in that function, render files and proxies are separate choices. And as Luis said, with M series chips (as well as Intel) you don't need proxies 99% of the time.

Turn off background rendering in settings. It's rarely needed. If there's a section that's too effects heavy to play in realtime, you can alway render just that section with Ctrl-R.
