Display does not turn back on after closing and reopening MacBook lid

When I put my MacBook to sleep the display turns back on fine, however, if it is put to sleep via closing the lid the MacBook doesn’t turn on the display. Everything in terms of background processes works fine, the sound works and so does the backlighting of my keyboard; I just can’t get the display to turn back on.

I have tried booting in safe mode, resetting the NVRAM, SMC and PRAM but none of it was to effect, and the issue persisted even within safe mode.

I thank you all in advance for any information!

If the issues persist within safe mode it is most likely or software glitches in macOS, or hardware error. Have you updated to the latest version of macOS? If not, try that, If so, you might want to report this issue to apple so that they can look in to it. Do it via this form Product Feedback - Apple

It could also be hardware error. You might want to take your MacBook to an Apple Store to have a genius from the Genius Bar look at it
