Why Does My Restaurant Menu Website Not Load Properly on iPads?

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a peculiar issue with my website, which features a restaurant's menu with detailed dishes, recipes, and prices. The site loads fine on MacBooks and iPhones, but when I try to access it on an iPad, it doesn't seem to work properly. The layout breaks, and some of the content doesn't display correctly.

I've asked people to test this on multiple iPads, and the problem persists. I suspect it might be a compatibility issue, but I'm not entirely sure. Could there be specific settings or configurations on iPads that I need to be aware of? Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with their websites on iPads?

I'd appreciate any insights or troubleshooting tips you might have. Thanks in advance for your help!

It is impossible to even guess why your website doesn't load as expected with specific devices - other than to cite the [perhaps] obvious observation that the underlying code is not optimised for iPadOS Safari.

Be aware that some websites may incorrectly identify your iOS/iPadOS Safari User Agent or version when used in one or other of its browsing modes - of which there are two - these being Desktop and Mobile. Misidentification of the browser Agent can often manifest as the website reporting that your browser is out of date, or won’t properly render a page. This may be your problem.

It’s easy to switch between modes if a website isn’t functioning correctly. From the desired web-page, touch the aA icon at the left of the Address Bar; this will reveal a menu. From the menu select Website Settings, then select (or deselect) Request Desktop Website, then tap Done. Now refresh the webpage.

The chosen setting will be saved for the selected website - and can be simply reversed if needed.

It's possible that the Jack in the Box menu site isn't loading properly on iPads due to compatibility issues with Safari or outdated web design. Ensure the site is optimized for mobile devices and test across various browsers. Updating the website's code and using responsive design techniques can help resolve these issues.

Thank you for your detailed response. I hadn't considered the potential misidentification of the iOS/iPadOS Safari User Agent. I'll definitely try switching between Desktop and Mobile modes as you suggested to see if that resolves the issue. This could indeed explain why the site isn't rendering properly.

I'll also look into optimizing the code for iPadOS Safari. If there are any specific resources or tools you recommend for testing and optimizing websites for different browsers and devices, I'd love to hear about them.

Thanks again for your help!

Thank you for your insight. My developer assures me that nothing is wrong with the site, but I'm still encountering issues. When I test it on my Mac in iPad mode, the site structure breaks. I also tried it on my nephew's older iPad, and the site does not appear accurately, with misplaced buttons and other layout issues.

I'm unsure if this problem is due to the older devices I'm using or if it persists on newer iPads. I'm concerned that users of my site may have a poor experience. If you have access to a newer iPad, could you kindly check the site and see if the issue persists?

Thanks again for your assistance!

A display, be it computer monitor, iPad, iPhone, etc., uses code contained in the website to properly display the webpages. The code tells it what colors, shapes, sizes, where on the screen etc.

Users can alter settings on their monitor, such as altering colors, contrast and even size by > zooming< in and forcing monitor to display objects larger, bolder etc. This can alter the placement of objects such as buttons and break the design of the page.

When the page becomes broken, many key elements may be displayed incorrectly. Nothing the designer can do about users that alter their own displays/hardware. The website becomes a customer service issue and CS people must be properly trained on the possible causes and solutions.
